With reference to paragraph 3 of your Despatch

No. 268 of the 24th July last I am directed to inform you that in

accordance with the conditions of the Sterling Salary Scheme Dr Koch

draws no conveyance allowance. I have to refer you, moreover, to

paragraph 3 of Mr Lucas's letter to Dr Keyt of the 5th June 1902, a

copy of which was transmitted with your Despatch No. 187 of 20th June

1902.

I may observe that during Dr Thomson's absence on

leave his conveyance allowance will be drawn by Dr Koch as the latter

will perform Dr Thomson's duties in addition to his own, and they

necessitate daily visits to different parts of the City.
